Amos, Jr. on Dec. 27, 1939 in Newark, NJ, Amos' pre-acting life was an athletic one; according to varying sources, he was a Golden Gloves boxing champion, and after graduating from Colorado State University with a degree in sociology, he played semi-professional football in the United States and Canada.
