Born in Willoughby, OH on Dec. 15, 1933, Conway studied speech and radio at Bowling Green University before joining the Army in the mid-1950s. After returning to civilian life, he worked his way up from the mail department to writer at a Cleveland radio station. In 1956, he relocated to New York City and eventually landed his first role on television as a cast member on "The Steve Allen Show" (NBC, 1956-1961). At some point prior to being cast, he changed his first name from Thomas to Tim to avoid confusion with actor Tom Conway of "The Falcon" fame.
