John Leguizamo was born on July 22, 1964, in Bogota, Columbia and moved to New York City when he was five years old. There, his mother and father, once an aspiring film director who had studied at the famed Italian studio Cinecitta, took service and factory jobs and began working their way up the ladder towards the American dream.
