Born on Dec. 23, 1948 in New York City, Moonves was the son of a gas station owner who graduated from Valley Stream Central High School on Long Island. He went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Bucknell University and pursued an acting career at New York's Neighborhood Playhouse, studying under renowned coach Sanford Meisner. He performed in numerous stage and television productions, including "Cannon" (CBS, 1971-76) and "The Six Million Dollar Man" (ABC, 1974-78), before opting to produce plays on Broadway and in Los Angeles.
