Beyoncé Sounds Fearless And Unapologetic On 'Lemonade'
The surprise unannounced album has become unsurprising in 2016. Yes, it’s technically still surprising when any superstar releases a new album, but not nearly as unexpected as it once was. After shocking the world with Beyoncé back in December 2013, another surprise album from Beyoncé was inevitable. This time, it comes in the form of Lemonade, initially streaming only via Tidal. One thing about Lemonade is for sure – it’s not sour in the least!

Lemonade is clearly Beyoncé at her most experimental – call this her ‘Anti’ album to say the least (shout out to Rihanna). “Pray You Catch Me” is ...

Remembering Prince: A Provocative Playlist
On April 21, 2016, the world lost a true musical genius – the iconic Prince Rogers Nelson, better known simply as Prince. Prince was the total musician, playing multiple instruments, composing his own songs, and stylistically restless, incorporating rock, pop, R&B, hip-hop, and jazz into his music. Into the 00s, Prince’s music remained cutting edge, even though the explicit language and overtly sexual nature of his music were tempered down compared to his heyday in the 80s and 90s. Here’s a provocative list of some of Prince’s more risqué, sensual songs. Some are hits while others are overs...

Science Explains Why Music Can Make You Feel As Good As Sex And
There are a few things in the world that really get our energy up and our hearts pumping. Food, sex, and music are among the first that come to mind. The former two are hardwired into our bodies genetically through innate survival techniques and years of evolution.

But music doesn't quite fit those other two. So what is it about music that gets the pleasure chemicals going and makes us jump up and down?

The answer is still physiological but isn't quite as obvious as those other two pleasures, food and sex.

Fortunately, the Life Noggin channel has created a short animated video that br...

Martina McBride's 'Reckless' Leads Albums To Check Out
Ah, the final music release week in April 2016. As iterated previously, April 2016 has been quiet on the music front with a lack of gargantuan hits for the most part. This week is stronger than previous weeks, with a number of worthwhile releases, even if none are incredibly highly anticipated per se. In the new release mix, this week is a county vet, the soundtrack to one crazy hip-hop drama series, and the physical CD release of a musical icon lost too soon. Here are eight albums to check out this week!

1) Martina McBride, Reckless (Big Machine)

After covering soul classics on her p...

Prince Tops Music Charts

Prince Posthumously Tops The Billboard 200
The person may be gone, but the music lives on. That is definitely the case as Prince posthumously tops the Billboard 200, with three albums gracing the top 10 this week. At No. 1, The Very Best of Prince has the biggest impact, moving a robust 179,000 units. Of that total, only 56% is pure album sales. Why? Likely, people purchased their favorite tracks as opposed to the entire album. Also, Prince’s music is unavailable for streaming, save for Tidal.

But enough technicality, what about more Prince? The Purple One’s ‘ace in the hole’ Purple Rain landed at no. 2, moving 69,000 units, with ...

A$AP Ferg Delivers Eclectic Sophomore Album With 'Always Strive and Prosper'

4/25/2016 3:05pm EDT
On his 2013 debut album Trap Lord, East coast rapper A$AP Ferg showed himself to be quite interesting. Ferg’s flow, coupled with an interesting personality, made the album intriguing. Three years after Trap Lord, Ferg drops Always Strive and Prosper, picking up and building upon where he left off. On this second go round Ferg flexes his versatile music muscles.

“Rebirth” initiates Always Strive And Prosper enigmatically, setting the tone. Once it settles in, Ferg kills it with his agile rhymes. “Hungry Ham” featuring Skrillex and Crystal Caines is quirky, yet undeniably infectious. Ferg m...

Sturgill Simpson’s 'A Sailor’s Guide To Earth' Among Year’s Best
Country music in some cases, like many musical styles lately, has become predictable and trendy. Expected topics covered via country music are tales sexy trucks, sexy girls, and even sexier beer, often over a good, if predictable production. In the case of Kentuckian Sturgill Simpson, he clearly eschews country’s grab bag of tricks, instead embracing ambitiousness and eclecticism, something that any and every genre of music needs to get on board with.

On A Sailor’s Guide To Earth, the highly anticipated follow-up to the critically acclaimed Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, Simpson show...
