Beyoncé Or Drake – Whose Surprise Album Surprised Us More?
April 2016, to be fair, was somewhat of a lackadaisical month for new music. That is no disrespect to the likes of Deftones (Gore), Lukas Graham (Lukas Graham), or The Lumineers (Cleopatra) who released enjoyable albums, but for much of the month, there was no clear blockbuster. Things changed towards the end of the month, thanks to two surprise albums, courtesy of Beyoncé (Lemonade) and Drake (Views).

Interestingly, both Beyoncé and Drake aren’t new to “shocking the world” and releasing surprise albums. Beyoncé did so flawlessly in December 2013 when she “changed the game” by dropping vis...

Beyoncé Takes 'Lemonade' To No. 1 On The Billboard 200
“Hold up” – who’s no. 1 on the Billboard 200 for the sixth time? That would be none other than the Queen herself, Beyoncé! Yes, for the sixth time in her career, Queen Bey has slain the competition and taken Lemonade to no. 1. While Lemonade’s pure sales don’t eclipse the sales of Beyoncé’s first surprise album, Beyoncé, the 653,000 units are exceptional. Take the streams out of the equation and 485,000 copies in pure sales (roughly 74%) aren't shabby in the least.

Beyoncé wasn’t the only newbie to march in “Formation” on the Billboard 200 this week. A$AP Ferg takes his sophomore album, A...

Prince's Siblings Meet In Court Over Singer's Multi-Million Doll
Prince's sister Tyka Nelson and several of the singer's half-siblings met in court on Monday for a hearing about the late superstar's estate.

People reports that the legendary musician was worth $250 million when he died on April 21. The purpose of the hearing in Chaska, Minnesota was to formally appoint a "special administrator" who will handle the estate.

People reports that authorities have not found a will or final testament for the late singer. The institution appointed to the estate, Bremer Bank and Trust, is continuing its search for a will.

"We are not finding that there's no wi...

Drake’s Highly Anticipated Fourth Studio Album 'Views' Maintains
Any time that Drake releases an album (or a mixtape, like 2015’s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late), it’s kind of a big deal. Drake’s fourth studio album Views, hence, is “kind of a big deal.” It was rumored that Views, originally called Views From The 6, would drop sometimes in the early part of 2016, with the April 29 date becoming the reality. Now that Drake has released his highly anticipated sophomore LP, how does it stack up? While there are some new tricks, much of Views is familiar and doesn’t depart from Drizzy’s script, which is mostly “blessing” but perhaps a little bit of “cu...

Beyoncé Sounds Fearless And Unapologetic On 'Lemonade'
The surprise unannounced album has become unsurprising in 2016. Yes, it’s technically still surprising when any superstar releases a new album, but not nearly as unexpected as it once was. After shocking the world with Beyoncé back in December 2013, another surprise album from Beyoncé was inevitable. This time, it comes in the form of Lemonade, initially streaming only via Tidal. One thing about Lemonade is for sure – it’s not sour in the least!

Lemonade is clearly Beyoncé at her most experimental – call this her ‘Anti’ album to say the least (shout out to Rihanna). “Pray You Catch Me” is ...

Remembering Prince: A Provocative Playlist

Remembering Prince: A Provocative Playlist
On April 21, 2016, the world lost a true musical genius – the iconic Prince Rogers Nelson, better known simply as Prince. Prince was the total musician, playing multiple instruments, composing his own songs, and stylistically restless, incorporating rock, pop, R&B, hip-hop, and jazz into his music. Into the 00s, Prince’s music remained cutting edge, even though the explicit language and overtly sexual nature of his music were tempered down compared to his heyday in the 80s and 90s. Here’s a provocative list of some of Prince’s more risqué, sensual songs. Some are hits while others are overs...

Science Explains Why Music Can Make You Feel As Good As Sex And
There are a few things in the world that really get our energy up and our hearts pumping. Food, sex, and music are among the first that come to mind. The former two are hardwired into our bodies genetically through innate survival techniques and years of evolution.

But music doesn't quite fit those other two. So what is it about music that gets the pleasure chemicals going and makes us jump up and down?

The answer is still physiological but isn't quite as obvious as those other two pleasures, food and sex.

Fortunately, the Life Noggin channel has created a short animated video that br...

New Music Releases This Week To Check Out

Martina McBride's 'Reckless' Leads Albums To Check Out
Ah, the final music release week in April 2016. As iterated previously, April 2016 has been quiet on the music front with a lack of gargantuan hits for the most part. This week is stronger than previous weeks, with a number of worthwhile releases, even if none are incredibly highly anticipated per se. In the new release mix, this week is a county vet, the soundtrack to one crazy hip-hop drama series, and the physical CD release of a musical icon lost too soon. Here are eight albums to check out this week!

1) Martina McBride, Reckless (Big Machine)

After covering soul classics on her p...
