James William Somerville was born June 22, 1961 in Scotland and is a pop singer and songwriter. He had considerable success in the 1980's with the famed pop groups Bronski Beat and The Communards. He also went on to have a successful solo career. Somerville is known for his particular style of singing; a very high “falsetto” singing voice. Somerville is also an activist within the gay community and is an openly gay musician. Somerville's musical career began when he co-founded the synth pop group Bronski Beat, in 1983. The group rose to fame fairly quickly, producing a slew of #1 hit singles in the U.K. Singles Charts. Their biggest hit was "Smalltown Boy" which reached #3 in the charts....
