Lostprophets are a rock band from Pontypridd, Wales, which was formed in 1997 by vocalist Ian Watkins, bassist Mike Lewis, drummer Mike Chiplin and guitarist Lee Gaze. The band came together from the ashes of a hard core punk band, Public Disturbance. The band got their start playing local venues across Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland. The band recorded a number of demos which caught the attention of the indie record label, Visible Noise, who signed the band in 1999. Lostprophets debut album “Thefakesoundofprogress” arrived in 2000. The band hit the road and began to set their sights on breaking into the American markets.
