Andre Hicks (July 5, 1970 – November 1, 2004), better known by his stage name Mac Dre, was an American rapper best known for being one of the originators of the hyphy movement. Before having a career for rapping, Mac Dre was involved in a bank robbing where it had landed him in federal prison serving five years. While incarcerated, Hicks had been writing and creating lyrics about his emotions and thoughts. He rapped his lyrics over the phone to his friends and from them came the album “Whats Realy Going On.” When released, his lyrics were more than exceptional in the eyes of producers and Hick's was on the rise.
