Quicksilver Messenger Service is a psychedelic rock band that came together in 1965 in San Francisco. The band found fame with the hit single, “Fresh Air,” which peaked at #49 on the Billboard Rock Singles Chart in 1970. Quicksilver Messenger Service built up a local following in the San Francisco Bay Area from playing local gigs. Around at the same time as contemporaries Jefferson Airplane and The Grateful Dead, Quicksilver were not as commercially successful or as well-known as the other two bands but were unique, in that they brought a jazz and classical element to their music with a folk background.
