The Sugarhill Gang is a hip-hop group from Englewood, New Jersey. The group's sound combines hip-hop with funk, R&B, and elements of a disco beat. The line-up consists of Wonder Mike, Big Bank Hank, and Master Gee. The trio was assembled into a group by producer Sylvia Robinson, who also founded Sugar Hill Records, along with her husband, record mogul Joe Robinson They shot to fame in 1979 with the hit title track, “Rapper's Delight,” from their 1980 debut album earning the band the status of being the first hip-hop group to have a Top 40 chart hit.
