The Call was a rock band from Santa Cruz, California that formed in 1980 and disbanded in 2000. The Call was formed by vocalist/guitarists Michael Been and Scott Musick, bassist Greg Freeman and guitarist Tom Ferrier. Been was an experienced musician, formerly a member of the Chicago outfit Aorta, and the band Lovecraft. The band's self-titled debut album arrived in 1982. The Call followed up in 1983 with their second album, “Modern Romans,” which was notable for its political content. This was followed by “Scene Beyond Dreams.” With a strong poetic sense to the lyrics and a change in instrumentation, the change in sound is notable.
