The Waterboys are a Celtic folk/rock group that formed in 1983 when vocalist Mike Scott recruited a number of musicians from his native Scotland, Ireland and England. The group dissolved in 1993 after 10 years of touring and releasing music, with Scott going on to pursue a solo career. The Waterboys reformed in 2000, and continue to release albums and tour worldwide. The Waterboys sound is influenced by the rich musical cultures of its members; Irish and Scottish folk lore plays a significant role in how Scott writes his songs.
