"Ouija," the horror movie based on the Hasbro board game of the same name, has topped the weekend box office, holding off weak competition from thriller "John Wick" and last week's No. 1, "Fury."

The film centers on a group of teens who investigate the death of a friend after discovering her Ouija board and attempt to use it to contact her spirit. Strange things begin happening after the board game's demonic spirit is set free and they realize that the "other side" is not meant to be played with.

Actor Jake Gyllenhaal wants to direct. The actor is currently searching for the perfect film to make his directorial debut.

The star, who acted in and produced his upcoming film "Nightcrawler," told Variety.com: "I'm searching... but I have yet to feel presumptuous enough. (I'll know when it found it) when my heart lines up with the material... in a visual way."

Gyllenhall's father, Stephen, is a director and his mother, Naomi Foner, is a producer and screenwriter.
