'The Vampire Diaries' Season 4: 5 Spoilers You Need To Know

October 9th, 2012 2:00pm EDT

The Vampire Diaries If you’re a The Vampire Diaries fan, you’re pretty excited for season 4 to start this Thursday at 8 pm ET on the CW.

(If you’re a Cablevision subscriber in the NY area, however, you better make plans and find another way to watch. The channel is still blacked out!)

To get you excited for the premiere and the first couple new episodes, we rounded up the top 5 best spoilers we’ve read. If you’re not caught up and don’t want to be spoiled, you should probably stop reading right now…

The Vampire Diaries airs on The CW on Thursday nights at 8 pm ET. It premieres Thursday, October 11.

Spoiler #1: Matt’s Guilt Will Lead Him to Help Elena with Her Transition

At the end of last season, Matt ran the car he was driving off the road into the river when jumped in front of it. Elena was also in the car and when Stefan jumped in to save them both, she insisted that he save her first.

Unfortunately, Elena died waiting for him to come back—and unbeknownst to her, she had vampire blood in her system, meaning she needs to feed in the next 24 hours to transition to become a vampire… or die.

According to TVGuide.com, “Although Matt was essentially the reason that Elena died, he’ll also play an integral role in her transition. Let’s just say his guilt will lead him to do just about anything for her – especially when she needs to feed.”

Sounds like either Matt’s going to help Elena find a snack… or he’s going to be the snack.

Spoiler #2: Elena’s Going to Kick Ass This Season

Elena was never afraid to put her life on the line for her friends or her family, but now this season, she’s got more muscle to back up her threats.

“I’m going to kick ass,” star Nina Dobrev told E! Online. “Elena is becoming a tough cookie. Before she used to talk about being independent, and now she has a chance to be.”

Will this season involve Elena going too far and becoming more like her doppleganger Katherine? And who’s ass will be kicked first? (Have to imagine Rebekah is high on that list.)

Spoiler #3: How Will Jeremy React to His Sister Becoming a Vampire?

TVLine says of the first episode: “There is a lot of squabbling-sibling drama, and it’s not all relegated to Damon and Stefan.”

There’s not a lot of siblings on the show, so that must refer to Elena and Jeremy, no? Jeremy is probably taking it pretty hard about the death of father figure Alaric and he’s probably not too pleased his sister is becoming a vampire. Even though he was, what, in love with 2 different ones at one point?

(Though they were both ghosts at the time as well.)

Spoiler #4: A New Vampire Hunter is Coming to Town

With the death of Alaric, that means there’s plenty of room in Mystic Falls for another vampire hunter.

According to TVLine, we’ll meet Connor, played by The Chicago Code veteran Todd Williams in the second episode and he’ll be a major recurring character this season. Says executive producer Julie Plec, Connor is a “mysterious and powerful new vampire hunter.”

He probably won’t have the same no kill, make friends with vampires over drinks policy that Alaric had…

Spoiler #5: The Originals Are Sticking Around

Even though our heroes are pretty angry at them, the Originals Klaus and Rebekah are sticking around.

Plec told EW.com that Klau’s decision to stick around Mystic Falls is because of the arrival of Connor. “He definitely has an agenda that he wants to service which we’ll start to get a hint at about three episodes, four episodes in, and it will involve how he feels about the existence of this hunter.”

We’ll also learn more about Klaus’ and Rebekah’s mother, Esther’s backstory. (Rebekah will also be sticking around and we may see the other Originals throughout the year either in flashback or present time.)

Said Plec, “One of the things that we’ve always said in the writer’s room is Esther’s creation of the original vampires was predicated on a spell that she already had, so where did she get that? And what does that mean? Does it mean that there are vampires that pre-date the original vampires?”
