Top 5 TV, May 23-29: Say Goodbye To 'Lost,' 'American Idol,' 'Dancing With The Stars'
May 23rd, 2010 2:37pm EDT
The week of May 23, 2010 will be a sad one for TV lovers. Viewers will say goodbye not only to several of their favorite shows, but also to a legendary country duo. At least everyone will be going out with a bang!
“Lost” – Sunday, ABC
This Sunday, after years of confusing, but amazing plot twists and shockers, viewers will say farewell to one of the biggest hits ABC has ever had – “Lost.” Since its premiere six years ago, “Lost” has captivated audiences, creating a world-wide phenomenon. But all good things must come to an end. The show will come to an end in style, though. An enhanced edition of the show’s pilot will air Saturday, May 22, while a special look back at the series, titled “Lost: The Final Journey,” will precede the finale. Finally, to really wrap things up, Jimmy Kimmel will host his own farewell to the show and its cast with the special “Jimmy Kimmel Live: Aloha to Lost.” That special will air 35 minutes after the finale ends.
“Brooks & Dunn: The Last Rodeo” – Sunday, CBS
It isn’t very often that a country duo still stands strong after 20 years of performances, and it isn’t very often that viewers get to enjoy a huge country music blowout; this week will be different, though. We are sad to say goodbye to such a legendary group, but Brooks & Dunn have decided it is time for them to go their separate ways, and in honor of them viewers will witness one of the greatest concerts of the year. Several country artists will hit the stage to honor the duo, including Kenny Chesney, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Reba McEntire, Brad Paisley, George Strait, Sugarland, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, and Keith Urban.
“The Bachelorette” – Monday, ABC
“The Bachelorette” will return to prime time on Monday, this time starring “Bachelor” reject Ali Fedotowsky. She may not have won the heart of Jake Pavelka, but the past is the past, and Ali is ready to be the one handing out the roses. On the season premiere, Ali will meet the 25 men ABC has chosen for her, then, after a few drinks, a back flip, and an early marriage proposal, Ali will narrow the field down to 17 suitors.
“Dancing with the Stars” – Monday/Tuesday, ABC
We are down to the final three celebrities for season 10 on “Dancing with the Stars,” and on Tuesday the season will close with one celebrity taking home the show’s mirror ball trophy. The final three – singer Nicole Scherzinger, ESPN correspondent Erin Andrews, and Olympic figure skater Evan Lysacek – will perform for the judges one last time on Monday before the winner is announced on the live finale.
“American Idol” – Tuesday/Wednesday, FOX
It has come down to two singers, both amazing in their own right, but on Wednesday only one will be named season nine’s American idol, and viewers can’t wait to find out who will take the title. On one hand, you have Crystal Bowersox – calm, cool, relaxed. Her attitude has a reggae feel to it, and her vocals are out of control. On the other hand, you have Lee DeWyze – sweet, charming, sometimes insecure. It has taken Lee a long time to show confidence on the stage, but now that he is showing it he is taking viewers and the judges to a higher level. The season may have lacked a lot of excitement, but the finale should make all the hours viewers have put in to the show 100 percent worth it.
