'Once Upon A Time' Winter Finale: 'Going Home'

12/16/2013 8:43am EST
Where do I begin?

That was the question I asked myself at the ending of Once Upon A Time’s winter finale, which was a game changer in ways I would have never predicted nor expected. In fact, as a dedicated fan, I had been so focused on wondering how everyone was going to stop Pan I didn’t stop to think of other possibilities the show could offer up – including a possible death. All I had thought was, there’s no way we could start this all over again.

But, in fact, that’s exactly what Once more or less did, pulling a LOST-like reset by sending most of our heroes back to their respective fa...

'Once Upon A Time' Recap: 'The New Neverland'

12/9/2013 9:55am EST
Once Upon A Time
As Once Upon A Time heads into its winter finale and towards the closure of its Neverland arc, we’re left with the question of just how will it all end? Will Pan ever be defeated? (And does that defeat include death?) Would the show really go so far as to bring everyone back to square one? Despite Internet grumblings, I’ve liked the Neverland storyline so far – it’s exceeded my expectations in terms of story and character development – but I’m also happy that we’re moving forward with some different conflicts. And the ultimate reveal of Pan’s master plan (to turn Storybrooke into the “New N...

'Once Upon A Time' Recap: 'Save Henry'

12/2/2013 11:36am EST
Once Upon A Time
It’s been a Once mystery for almost as long as the show has been on the air: what are the details surrounding Henry’s adoption? How did he come to Storybrooke in the first place, given that he was born to Emma in “the real world”? We finally got the answer in “Save Henry,” an episode that helped the show continue on its streak of a decently strong third season.

As Henry lay seemingly dead at the hands of Pan after giving up his heart, the episode chronicled the backstory of his adoption eleven years ago – taking us back to the day that Regina unleashed the now infamous curse. She pays a vi...

'Revolution' Recap: 'Everyone Says I Love You'

11/21/2013 3:17pm EST
It’s been a bit of a ride on Revolution so far this season – but dare I say that it was a ride I enjoyed? Sure, the series is still far from perfect. Most shows, even those I deem my top favorites, are. But after Revolution’s sizeable misfire last season, there was little they could do to make my skeptical (and loyal) self roll my eyes less than I did for most of season one.

All of which leads me to say, Revolution is probably the best example of what happens when showrunners listen to their fans and realize their mistakes. The show’s second season was not only tighter in storyline but als...

'Once Upon A Time' Review: 'Think Lovely Thoughts'

11/19/2013 9:36am EST
Once Upon A Time
Who is Peter Pan? According to Once Upon A Time, he’s certainly not the happy-go-lucky, carefree, spunky child that we all grew up to know and love from Disney’s 1953 animated classic. But that’s no surprise. We knew from the beginning of our introduction to season three’s “big bad” that Pan most likely had a damaged past, one that – much like our other heroes – probably contributed to his currently evil ways. Perhaps he had a bad parental experience, or a bad brush with magic that turned him to the dark side, like Rumple and Regina.

Well, in a sense, that all turned out to be kind of true...

'Revolution' Review: 'Come Blow Your Horn'

11/14/2013 10:42am EST
Continuing its dark road – as it has all season – this week’s Revolution picks up with our character’s current perilous situations: Monroe, Aaron and Cynthia in hiding after being attacked, and Miles, Charlie and Rachel dealing with both Aaron’s disappearance and the knowledge of the fact that Gene is a traitor. I really love the path that’s being chosen for Stephen Collins’ character – it demonstrates that the show is adding people that it cares about fleshing out, as opposed to just throwing random guest actors and additions into the mix because it might help the story along. To that end,...

'Once Upon A Time' Recap: 'Dark Hollow'

11/12/2013 10:12am EST
Once Upon A Time
Oh hey, Storybrooke! I remember you! I think…

“Dark Hollow” marked the first time we’ve really been back in the town since last season’s finale, and I have to admit, as much as I enjoy the Neverland arc (though I seem to be in the minority here), I was very glad to have an hour rooted in people (and a place) we haven’t seen a lot of. While we still traveled back to Neverland to move along the island story, it was a nice change of pace for the show and one that I wish had been done sooner.

We flash back to the season two finale, where Rumple leaves Belle with the caveat of going off to fin...

'Revolution' Recap: 'The Patriot Act'

11/7/2013 4:22pm EST
Last week’s “Dead Man Walking” may have been more hyped on the promotional front, and it’s not that the hour wasn’t good. But “The Patriot Act” was, in retrospect, a much stronger episode in terms of both character development and plotlines, introducing a formidable new villain and lots of new issues that should help continue to steer the show forward as we head into sweeps season and eventually, into the winter finale.

Last week, we were (briefly) introduced to the unsettling Dr. Calvin Horn, Rachel’s former Department of Defense co-worker, better known as Zeljko Ivanek, better known to L...

'Once Upon A Time' Recap: 'Ariel'

11/5/2013 9:45am EST
Once Upon A Time
Shameless personal digression alert: I love The Little Mermaid. Perhaps it comes from my love of singing, perhaps it comes from my penchant to gravitate towards ladies with red hair, perhaps it comes from the fact that the movie came out at a time in my life I will forever associate with intimate and personal memories. Being a Disney child, I fell in love with all the films that followed in the Renaissance period and thereafter, but The Little Mermaid holds a special place in my heart as not only one of my favorite Disney films, but one of my favorite all-time films, period. And consequentl...

'Revolution' Recap: 'Dead Man Walking'

10/31/2013 4:13pm EDT
Oh, Revolution. You almost had me.

I have to admit, I started writing a rather angry review before the episode was even over, when I was convinced the show had actually killed off one of its best – and most underused – talents. Thankfully, I was able to contain my rage, because honestly? I don’t believe Monroe is dead. Rather, I would be surprised if Monroe was dead. While we certainly saw him die, down to the closed eyes and burial, Rachel digging up the grave at the end made me think otherwise. And though it was eventually revealed that Gene is working for the Patriots (he at least has e...
