The Infectious “Don’t Drop That Thun Thun” Has Irresponsibility Written All Over It
“Don’t drop that thun thun thun!” WTF? Yep, there is a newer stupid – or brilliant – rap song by the name of “Don’t Drop That Thun Thun” (It actually came out in 2012). The artist? FiNaTTicZ. The cut actually takes me back to the day when dumb, but addictive skeletal rap was in – tunes like “Drop It Like It’s Hot” (Snoop Dogg), “Wait (The Whisper Song)” (The Ying Yang Twins), or “The Whistle Song” (Juelz Santana). In that regard, FiNaTTicZ are onto something. Anytime you can rekindle my high school/college years, well I’m onboard. But the biggest question is, well, what is a “thun thun thun”?
The first time I heard it and being the naïve human being I can be, I assumed that this was a raunchy, clubbing track. I mean, doesn’t ‘thun thun thun’ sound like a great reference for the booty? The good news is that “Don’t Drop That Thun Thun” is a cut for the clubs, particularly with lines like “Alright oh my goodness I’m turnt up / I got a bottle you got a cup / you hit the dougie / I 2 step…” (Verse two) but the actual thun thun thun is not referring to the butt. LOL. According to goto slang source Urban Dictionary, “thun thun thun” is MDMA otherwise known as ecstasy. Yep, it’s another song about molly.
For me, finding out that this song is about ecstasy kills the vibe. I mean, I thought I’d found the next great thing and then here comes ‘molly’ once more. Molly rap is an incredibly stupid and irresponsible trend in rap music, as pointed out by Kendrick Lamar previously. Furthermore, it’s pretty [insert favorite swear word here] annoying. Why is it cool to glorify popping mollies? Why is molly rap the ‘it trend’? If you examine the lyrics closely, the ecstasy references are clear cut: “I said my money is green and my thun thun is blue / and if I pop that b***h / she gon pop one too…” Shameful, shameful, shameful. Will Molly ever just die!?!?
