Teen Queen Spotlight: Selena, Miley, Kristen & Dakota
March 2nd, 2010 9:05am EST
It's hard to believe that someone who was born in 1992 was able to rake in a $25 million paycheck last year, but according to The Forbes 2009 Celebrity 100, that's indeed what Miss Miley Cyrus brought to the bank. While the typical teen is mowing lawns and lifeguarding, Miley is making millions upon millions starring in movies, selling CDs, and moving those under-aged hips of hers on stages across the world.
That is the current state of celebrity, as teens such as Selena Gomez, Dakota Fanning, Kristen Stewart, and Miley Cyrus are under twenty and absolutely tearing it up.
The days when teens ran home from high school to watch Carson Daly interview their favorite celebs on MTV'S TRL are long over. But young Hollywood is bigger than ever in 2010, and these ladies are certainly making a name for themselves.
Britney and Christina were able to pass the teen queen torches to Disney stars Cyrus and Gomez, as these two are following in their footsteps as multi-dimensional superstars. Adorable 17-year-old Selena Gomez of the wildly popular "Wizards of Waverly Place" is charming in just about every little thing she does, and most would agree she doesn't have that child star tragedy looming in her shadows. It's highly unlikely that the "Selena Gomez: True Hollywood Story" will end in a tale about the time she robbed a liquor store in the Hollywood hills.
Cyrus on the other hand has created a great deal of controversy for herself in her short time in the spotlight. From her revealing MySpace photos to her risqué pole dancing performance at The Teen Choice Awards, millions of fans are praying that these acts aren't a prelude to a Britney-like breakdown. Most hope that these so-called controversies can be chalked up to youth and experimenting with her celebrity. With her hit show "Hannah Montana" ending, it will be interesting to see if she is able to expand her young fan base to a more mature crowd.
It feels like young actress Dakota Fanning has been around longer than Betty White, as she's only 16 and has been in a bunch of A-list films such as, "I Am Sam," "Man on Fire," "War of the Worlds," "Coraline" and "Push." In addition to these films, Fanning joins fellow teen queen Kristen Stewart in the "Twilight" sequels "New Moon" and "Eclipse." Professional and classy, Fanning has the ability to play a large range of roles, from dramatic to comedic, and everything in between. Fanning isn't going anywhere anytime soon, as she has the talent and ability to maintain her star power for a long time to come.
Kristen Stewart shot to superstardom with her lead role in the "Twilight" franchise. At 19, Stewart is one of the most recognizable actresses on the planet due to the tremendous success of the "Twilight" films. With previous roles in "Panic Room," "Into the Wild," and "Adventureland," Stewart isn't a Hollywood rookie by any means. With her current A-list status, fans can be certain they will be seeing Stewart in more blockbuster films in the future, starting with the Joan Jett biopic "The Runaways" where she will team up with Fanning for a third time.
The best part about these teen queens is that their fans get to watch these young celebrities evolve over the years and witness them grow both professionally and as people. Only time will tell if they have the staying power as actresses and musicians, but by the look of their resumes and bank accounts, they'll be doing just fine.
