Mircea Monroe Talks Returning To 'Hart Of Dixie' And 'Episodes'
October 7th, 2013 4:13pm EDT
She's beautiful, she's brilliant, and she's bringing it on not one but two TV shows. Mircea Monroe has doubly impressed TV audiences as Tansy Truitt on The CW's Hart of Dixie and Morning Randolph on Showtime's Episodes. Before tonight's Hart of Dixie season premiere, BFTV sat down with Mircea to discuss both her characters, what it's like to transition between a pair of very different roles, and working with not one but two talented casts.
"It's awesome. It just was perfect timing," she told us of being able to work on two shows simultaneously. "I just believe in them both so much. They're both such great quality."
When it comes to Hart of Dixie, audiences will have to wait a little to see much of her - but it will be worth it. In tonight's episode, "Basically you see Tansy, but you don't really know what part she'll have or sort of where things will go. It's very vague initially," Mircea explained. "And then the next episodes I'm not in and then the character comes back and it's a wonderful arc."
Being a recurring player has given her a different experience behind the scenes as well. "I had never had this experience before. I'd either be a guest star or a series regular," she explained. "In between [appearances], I don't get the scripts so, I kind of came back and I didn't know what was going on with people. So I was experiencing it as an audience member."
Mircea's even more in the dark when we discuss the forthcoming third season of Episodes, which won't be seen until next year. "As far as the upcoming season, I have absolutely no clue," she admitted, telling us that it'll air in January. But she's okay with that: "It's kind of fun and exciting to get those first few scripts and see who I am," she added.
Who she is, is an actress who's playing two incredibly opposite roles. On Hart of Dixie, Tansy is Wade's (Wilson Bethel) ex-wife and George's (Scott Porter) current girlfriend, a woman in a small Alabama town. Switch over to Episodes and you'll find Morning, whose amount of plastic surgery is a running gag throughout the series, and who's as self-centered and vain as they come. Being able to maintain both of those characters is definitely an accomplishment!
It also means that Mircea gets to work with not one but two different casts, and we asked her what it's like to spend time with both these groups of people. "On Hart of Dixie, I mostly work with Scott [Porter] and Rachel [Bilson], and Episodes I mostly work with Matt [LeBlanc], Stephen [Mangan] and Tamsin [Greig]," she told us.
"Both environments are kind of like a family feel, where everybody's really kind and welcoming. On both shows, both sets of castmates have become like genuinely real good friends. On Episodes, we hang out just in our personal life. Kathleen [Rose Perkins] and I, we're friends in real life, which is a beautiful thing. Kathleen is the best human who has walked the earth."
She's front and center on our screens right now, but she should be a familiar face to anyone who's a TV geek. Mircea starred in FOX's Drive alongside Nathan Fillion and Kristin Lehman, and she's guested on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Sons of Anarchy, Supernatural, Chuck and White Collar, just to name a few. So what off her resume would Mircea recommend to Hart of Dixie or Episodes fans looking to dive into her resume?
"I feel like there's so many. I feel like I've done so many projects," she laughed. "Two things immediately come to mind. One is a movie that just came out called Three Days to Normal. It's a really, really sweet little indie movie. That and then one of my other favorites is a movie called The-Change Up. That's another one that was just so much fun."
It's not surprising that Mircea found her way into performing: meet her off-screen, and you'll find one of the sweetest, funniest, most down-to-earth folks who just happens to be a beautiful actress. Her enthusiasm - not just for talking about what she's doing but also about the people she works with and how much she appreciates them - is infectious. This is someone who belongs in the spotlight, if only because we need more people with her energy in the world.
So what would she say is the most interesting thing about the life she's chosen? "The people you meet because of the job," she said. "These interesting, cool, creative people that I had dreamed about or sort of grew up respecting. To be able to work with them and know them."
And it still hasn't quite sunk in. "I feel like even though I have always been able to work," Mircea told us, "it took me within the last few years where I kind of one day was like, 'Oh my God, I have this life that I have always wanted.' Only more recently have I really stopped to reflect." We can't blame her for being awestruck still - we're just glad that she's sharing her talent with the rest of us.
