A Brief Glimpse Of Stardom: 10 Celebs Who Had Their 15 Minutes Of Fame In 2012

December 9th, 2012 1:07pm EST

PSY Not every star can have the longevity of a Michael Caine. Some enjoy the lights for stardom for all but a few brief moments. Here are the stars who had their 15 Minutes of Fame in 2012:
Jeremy Lin - Lin was the talk of New York during the 2011-2012 NBA season, when he became the breakout star of the Knicks. He was on the cover of every sports section during the height of "Linsanity," and even got on the cover of TIME magazine. Now? He's playing for the Houston Rockets, where he averages 10 points and 6 assists per game. Not bad, but certainly not cover-of-Time-magazine good.
Tanning Mom - Patricia Krentcil made pop culture waves when she was accused of trying to put her 5 year-old daughter into a tanning bed, followed by photos of her extremely-dark skin. After she was invited to a red carpet, where she promptly got drunk and stumbled about, it was just sad.
Honey Boo Boo - At some point, Honey Boo Boo is going to grow up and get too old for the child beauty pageants that made her famous. At that moment, her innocent ignorance will be replaced with plain ignorance - which we already get from her much less famous family members.
Uggie - The trained Jack Russell Terrier was made famous by a viral campaign to get him nominated for film awards following his role in The Artist - a film with Oscar buzz. The Artist won best picture, and Uggie retired. He had his memoirs published and is currently enjoying life out of the spotlight.
Rupert Sanders - Sanders was well on his way to making a name for himself. After directing award-winning advertisements, he got his big break directing the star-packed Snow White and the Huntsman. Then he had an affair with the lead actress, Kristen Stewart. This catapulted him to the front pages, a place he would prefer to be for his artistic efforts, not an extramarital affair.
Ryan Lochte - Lochte's claim to fame was being Michael Phelps rival - and actually having the skills to beat the famous swimmer. Ryan was able to bask in stardom following his five gold medals at the 2012 Olympics, and even teased at appearances in some rality shows like The Bachelor and Dancing with the stars. However, nowadays he's on lists like The Least Influential People.
The rest of the 2012 Olympians - Few Olympians last in pop culture's spotlight - even Michael Phelps disappears for long periods of time, and he broke records - and this year's crop will probably be no different. While Gabby Douglas "enjoyed" stardom for her hair and McKayla Maroney was a meme for a while, the 2012 Olympians will fade away until their next time to shine on the world's largest stage.
Twinkies - Remember when we cared about Twinkies enough to buy them? Hostess' bankruptcy (the second since 2005) created a rush to buy Twinkies before they disappeared forever. However, someone will buy Hostess, and a majority of America will resume not buying the sweet treats until they're healthy enough for regular consumption.
Carly Rae Jepsen - Yes, Jepsen has the backing of Bieber. However, can you name the album Call Me Maybe is on, let alone the other singles on the disc? It wouldn't be surprising if you could'nt; they haven't charted in the United States.
PSY - Hey, this guy is backed by Bieber, too! The man with the YouTube video with the most views is almost at the end of his 15 minutes. PSY seems like a really nice guy, and it's great he finally got a hit after 10 years in music, but there's nothing to suggest that he'll have another song that will achieve anywhere near the popularity of Gangham Style.
