Many people know Carly Pope as the main character of WB comedy-drama Popular, the first television show created by Glee's Ryan Murphy. But what has Carly been up to since? Let's find out...
First, some background: Carly Pope grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia. She fell in love with acting early on and appeared in several plays while in high school. She made her professional debut the same year she graduated, appearing in Disturbing Behavior with Katie Holmes and James Marsden.
Following her film debut, Carly tried out for two WB shows: Roswell and Popular. While she was turned down for the lead role of Liz in Roswell (that went to Shiri Appleby), she got the role of the geeky Sam on Popular - after trying out for cheerleader Brooke. She would appear on the show for all 43 episodes, before it was cancelled after a cliffhanger episode. Popular is now a mainstay on Entertainment Weekly's yearly "Best Cult TV Shows" list.
After playing bit roles in films like Orange County and one-off TV roles in shows such as Kim Possible and Jake 2.0, she starred in Canadian TV series The Collector in its first season in 2004 before being replaced.
Pope continued to struggle in showbiz, mostly working on TV films and one-episode appearances in various TV shows. Her next recurring role would come in 2007, when she starred as Garbo in the FX series Dirt.
In 2008, Carly starred in the TV film "24: Redemption" as Samantha Roth, and then appeared in the 7th season of the show as the same character. In 2009, she made headlines for being carjacked in Vancouver. Her actor brother Kris was driving when a man jumped on their car and told them to run him over. When Kris got out, the man ran into the car and took off with Carly still in the passenger seat. The man crashed the car into CBC studios, breaking one of Carly's ribs and cracking two of her vertebrae.
Carly's last recurring role would be in 2010, when she was cast as one of the main characters in the NBC series Outlaw. The show would be canceled after eight episodes. In 2013, she made an appearance in Elysium.
