10 Popular Music Songs Penned By Other Artists

Rihanna The music industry is one business where it is common for music artists to either meet up and share musical talents or acknowledge the song writing skills of other music artists musically. Check our following ten popular song picks penned by other music artists.
Singer Rihanna’s hit single “Diamonds” owes it’s “Alternative” flavored leanings to singer-songwriter Sia who penned the track for the singer’s Unapologetic studio music release. Sia, on her part, is also best known for her co-writing and vocal contribution to DJ David Guetta’s “Titanium” hit single.

If the track “Lovesong” sounds familiar, from singer Adele’s top selling music release 21, it because the track is actually a cover written by musician Robert Smith and made popular in the 80‘s by his music group The Cure.

It may have raised some eyebrows, but Country music icon Johnny Cash’s haunting rendition of a song called “Hurt" - from his 2003 American IV: The Man Comes Around music release - is a track written by musician Trent Reznor of Alternative music group Nine Inch Nails.

Though the vocally climatic song “You Raise Me Up” has become synonymous with singer Josh Groban, off his 2004 Closer studio music release, it was penned by Rolf Løvland and Brendan Graham the famed 90‘s international music act Secret Garden.

Country music artist Carrie Underwood’s single, “I Told You So,” gained added popularity when the track, originally penned and performed in the 80's by Country music star Randy Travis, was released as a single off her 2009 music release Carnival Ride.

On their current self-titled studio release, music group The Civil Wars performs an intriguing performance of the song “Disarm" which bears minimal resemblance to the original recorded by music group Smashing Pumpkins and penned by lead member Billy Corgan.

Country music legend Willie Nelson may be a renowned songwriter in his own right, but the new single “To The Moon And Back,” from latest release To All The Girls, is penned by duet partner and Country music legend in her own right Dolly Parton.

Singer Leann Rimes gives a nod to singer-songwriter Missy Higgins, with the version of the singer’s song “Where I Stood,” on current release Spitfire.

Country star Natalie Maines’ solo track single “Without You,” showcasing more Rock flavored inspirations on release Mother, is a track originally penned by Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder.

Musician Jack White‘s “Love Is Blindness,” which is a popular standout track featured on this year’s Great Gatsby soundtrack, is written by Bono’s U2.
