Brad Pitt cancels Brazil trip over protests

Brad Pitt Brad Pitt has pulled out of a planned trip to Brazil to promote his new movie World War Z amid ongoing unrest in the country.

The actor was set to attend a screening of the zombie thriller in Rio de Janeiro on Monday (24Jun13), but he has scrapped the trip because of "ongoing events in Brazil", according to a statement issued by bosses at Paramount Pictures.

More than one million people have taken to the streets across the country in recent days to protest against public transport fare hikes, among other issues.

According to the AFP, executives at Paramount have expressed solidarity with the Brazilian people during the crisis.
