Mark Burnett making sequel to TV hit The Bible

The Bible TV mogul Mark Burnett is developing a sequel to his hit mini-series The Bible following its huge success earlier this year (13).

The 10-part religious epic broke network records when it began airing on America's History Channel in March (13) and now executive producer Burnett has signed a deal with NBC studio bosses to bring follow-up A.D.: Beyond the Bible to the small screen.

The new series will explore the beginnings of Christianity following the death of Jesus Christ, and Bob Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, says, "I followed the development process of The Bible closely with Mark and knew that the story was far from over after Christ's crucifixion. In fact, what happened in the aftermath - which is essentially the beginning of Christianity - is utterly fascinating. The day after The Bible premiered, I told Mark we were on board with no hesitation for the follow-up miniseries. This will be attention-getting in every way, and we're proud to continue our association with Mark..."

A premiere date for the tentatively titled A.D.: Beyond the Bible has yet to be announced.
