Katherine Jackson: 'I had no idea who Conrad Murray was'

July 22nd, 2013 8:40pm EDT

Katherine Jackson Michael Jackson's mother has testified she had no knowledge of her son's physician Dr. Conrad Murray until the day the King of Pop died in 2009.

Katherine Jackson took to the witness stand on Monday (22Jul13) as she resumed her testimony in her wrongful death trial against executives at AEG Live - the promotions company behind Jackson's ill-fated This Is It concerts - and told the court in Los Angeles that she had no idea who the incarcerated doctor was when she first heard his name.

She also testified that she did not believe her son had any responsibility for his own death.

Jackson and her grandchildren are suing AEG Live bosses, claiming they failed to properly investigate Murray, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for giving the singer a fatal overdose of the anaesthetic propofol.

She claims AEG Live executives hired Murray, not her son.

And when she was asked if she thought her late son could have begged Murray to administer the fatal dose of propofol, Katherine said, "Even though he asked for it, he (Murray) could have said no."

She also opened up about conversations she had with her son about his prescription drug use, adding, "I'm a mother, quite naturally he denied it. He wouldn't want me to think that."

The 83 year old admitted she was aware her son took medications for pain in his back and scalp, but she never saw signs that he was abusing medications.
