July 30th, 2013 3:11am EDT

Glee Glee star Jayma Mays is walking away from the show after five seasons.

The actress, who plays high school counselor Emma Pillsbury, has been in the cast since Glee first aired in 2009, but she has confirmed the programme's upcoming fifth run will be her last.

She says, "This is going to be my last season. I'm finishing up this season, so I'm not sure what direction and who's coming on and who's not."

The future of the musical hit is currently uncertain following the death of lead actor Cory Monteith earlier this month (Jul13). The next series will kick off in the U.S. a week later than scheduled on 26 September (13).
