Pearl Jam Rockers Pearl Jam celebrated the fact they'll soundtrack baseball's upcoming World Series on TV by sharing the stage with Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Jason Grilli at their tour opener on Saturday night (12Oct13).

The Pirates were knocked out of the play-offs last week (ends11Oct13) by the St. Louis Cardinals, but Grilli was all smiles as Eddie Vedder welcomed him onstage in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to rapturous applause.

The band has given executives at U.S. TV network Fox Sports extensive use of 48 of its songs for promotional use leading up to the World Series coverage and during the seven-game showdown, which is scheduled to begin on 23 October (13).

Unfortunately, Vedder's beloved Chicago Cubs won't be part of the game - the team didn't make it to the play-offs.

Pearl Jam's first concert in Pittsburgh in seven years was a mix of classics and tracks from their new album Lightning Bolt, and Vedder dedicated the new release's hit ballad Sirens to a deceased college student who once interviewed him in the band's early days.
