March 17th, 2012 4:30pm EDT

21 Jump Street When word spread that the 1980s drama 21 Jump Street would be adapted into a film, there were many doubts about the fact that yet another television show was coming to the big screen.

But as more became aware of the film's fresh new comedic twist which would include actors Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum and cameos from original cast members Johnny Depp and Holly Robinson Peete, the interest for the film heightened.

So in honor of the films release, we decided to put together a quick list of 5 of the best television series that have been adapted into films.

Be sure to leave your thoughts about the list down below!

Star Trek: The multiple television series under this huge franchise are some of the best of all-time. And with eleven film adaptations stemming back from the late 1970s and another in the works, there is no way that we could leave Star Trek off of this list.

Mission Impossible: The ongoing series that ruled on the television tube for almost ten years starting in the mid 1960s, was released as a film starring Tom Cruise in 1996. Since the release of the first film there have been three sequels to follow, which have all been major blockbuster successes.

South Park: Since the debut in 1997 the show has been a huge success and is known as the sitcom that put Comedy Central "on the map." Full of laughs and profanity, the series was adapted into a film in 1999 and became an instant box office hit that went above and beyond the television show.

The Fugitive: The series has been deemed one of the best shows ever, and remained on television for four years. The movie based on the show was released in 1993 and became a huge commercial success grossing $368,875,760 from a $44 million budget.

The A-Team: With some of the most memorable catchphrases, characters and over-the-top violence, the series remains one of the most prominent in popular culture. The film wasn't as successful in the box office, but I thought is was worth the reboot.
