10 Best Actors of 2012
November 25th, 2012 5:00pm EST
2012 has been a great year in Film, especially for giant box office hits like The Hunger Games, The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Twilight Saga-Breaking Dawn Part 2. Regardless of film size though, we are thankful for the following actors because they blew us away, whether it was in a lower budget Indie or a Box office sensation (or both, in some cases!)
1.) Jennifer Lawrence-Oh, where do we possibly start with you? Your 2012 performances have been outstanding, not that it’s any surprise, because after we saw you in Winter’s Bone, we knew there was nothing you couldn’t do. This year, you made our favorite fantasy book heroine, Katniss Everdeen, come to life on the big screen in The Hunger Games, and we couldn’t imagine anyone else playing the fiery young victor. Even more importantly, your performance as Tiffany in Silver Linings Playbook was so raw, genuine and heartwarming, you absolutely deserve an Oscar for Best Actress. We’ll cross our fingers for you! You go girl.
2.) Charlize Theron-The fairest of them all, you kept us on the edge of our seats throughout Snow White and the Huntsman. Your twist on our favorite fairytale villain was edgy, innovative, and intense. You’ve never been afraid to push yourself, to reach deeper, and to bring new elements to a part. We applaud you for that and can’t wait to see what’s next.
3.) Bradley Cooper- You expanded your horizons this year and made some awesome indie films (not that we didn’t totally enjoy movies like The Hangover!). Your performance as Pat in Silver Linings Playbook was exceptional and you made us laugh, even through our tears.
4.) Johnny Depp-Is there ever a year that you don’t totally blow our minds? Who else could have pulled off a horrific yet hilarious vampire who’s been imprisoned for over 100 years in Dark Shadows? There’s never a dull moment with you, and audiences will always have a profound love for each and every one of your characters.
5.) Rebel Wilson-You have got to be the best thing to happen to comedies, ever. We loved you in last year’s Bridesmaids, and this year, you cracked us up as “Fat Amy” in Pitch Perfect. We’re glad you randomly decided to be an actress one day, because the hilarious wit and charisma you bring to films is what we never knew we always wanted.
6.) Robert Downey Jr.-We missed your sarcastic arrogance as Tony Stark, and this year, you came back with a bang in The Avengers, reminding us why you will always charm us into to the theaters, year after year.
7.) Marion Cotillard- You won my heart in movies like Love Me if You Dare and Inception, but this year you give your most riveting performance yet in Rust and Bone. As Stephanie, the emotion behind your eyes is so tangible, it’s heart wrenching. You are our very favorite French actress, so here’s to an obvious Oscar nomination.
8.) Emma Watson-Congratulations on your daring leap into your first post-Harry Potter role. As Sam in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, you make us forget that you ever even played the uptight Hermione for over 7 years. Your ability to portray Sam’s wide range of emotions and your perfected American accent give us no doubt that we’ll be watching your great performances for years to come.
9.) Denzel Washington-After a year hiatus, we were happy to see you return as the brave pilot in Flight. A great movie and a moving performance, we were on the edge of our seats the entire time. Also, a little bird told us that you may be nominated for an Oscar!
10.) Joseph Gordon Levitt-You’ve come a long way since your 10 things I Hate About You days, and we loved seeing you as Joe in the action flick, Looper, this year. Your character was so entirely different from anything else you’ve played, we barely recognized you! That's when you really know someone's a fantastic actor.
