The Skinny Truth About Bethenny Frankel's SkinnyGirl Diet

Bethenny Frankel has created an entire empire out of her natural chef-inspired Skinnygirl product line. The breakout star of The Real Housewives of New York seemed to lose all her pregnancy weight in three weeks which she credits from following her own diet principles. Frankel’s weight loss products include the Skinnygirl Cleanse & Restore Plus Weight Support Formula and her diet program Naturally Thin. The reality star has been open about her own struggles with body image and food in the past so her recommendations need to assessed carefully. Bethenny Frankel is not a dietitian and this program does not appear to have been developed in collaboration with an R.D. or M.D.
The Skinnygirl Weight Management and Energy is a supplement product available at GNC stores. According to its ingredient label the formula includes CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid), flaxseed oil, and B12 which are believed to increase metabolic energy and fat breakdown. To date, the FDA has not evaluated this product for the accuracy of its claims. The contents of this product are not unique as dieters can purchase the ingredients separately from a pharmacy or health food store. They are not, in themselves, natural metabolic boosters like caffeine or cayenne pepper.
As for Bethenny Frankel’s Naturally Thin eating program, detailed in her book, it is more gimmick than a meal plan. The contents of Naturally Thin are written in the metaphor of the current economic downturn. Frankel advises readers to consider calorie counting akin to balancing a bank account. She allows dieters to eat pastries or cakes but limit themselves to a bite or two or else they are overdrawn for the day. So while no food is off limit you are restricted in your enjoyment of it. Frankel does allow dieters to eat an abundance of low calorie food like raw vegetables and fruit. She also includes product placement by mentioning that a Skinnygirl Margarita is a good alternative to fattening alcohol drinks that ruin a diet. In a nutshell the Naturally Thin program is about downsizing luxury foods like chocolate cakes and increasing your caloric savings by consuming lower calorie dishes. She includes a 7 day starter eating plan for those new to her Naturally Thin diet system.
The disadvantages of Bethenny Frankel’s diet is that it assumes people have self control and can stop after one or two scoops of ice cream. It also doesn’t account for that fact that certain food can acts as triggers for certain people. By that, carbohydrates or sweets can cause someone to binge for hours and then purge. This is a common occurrence with those afflicted with eating disorders and groups like Overeaters Anonymous advise avoiding trigger foods. Bethenny Frankel has come up with a good gimmick for losing weight but its philosophy is limited in any long-term effectiveness.
