DVD Review: 'Immigration Tango'

July 7th, 2011 8:12am EDT

Tango pic A green card marriage – easy enough. But when INS forces two couples to swap partners to keep the charade going, that’s when feelings between friends and lovers start to get complicated. We’re taking a look at the new David Burton Morris (he of "Patti Rocks" fame!) film "Immigration Tango" out on DVD now from Lionsgate – see the facts below!

Title: "Immigration Tango"

The Flick: I wasn’t expecting much from the goofy set up of Immigration Tango – a green card marriage with two couples swapping to fool INS – but when I saw the name of the great David Burton Morris as director I was even more ashamed. The man behind what I consider to be one of the funniest, honest, and out right caustically candid films in my top ten of all time called "Patti Rocks" has taken a serious cinematic dive with this badly staged elongated "Three’s Company" style episode. As if taking a page from the book of overacting and a passage from the pamphlet of playing predictable, this is a picture so bad that even Uwe Boll would laugh.

Best Feature: There is only one feature on this and it’s hardly a best. There’s a filmmaker commentary with lead actress and producer Elika Portnoy, the editor and line producer, but Director Morris who is talked about ("He’s very efficient on set." - Yeah.) amidst the massive pauses is conspicuously MIA.

Best Hidden Gem: The fact that this is a Burton Morris flick – I’d hide my name in small print too!

Worth the Moola: Look, it may seem harsh, but when a talented writer/director puts out such poignant and memorable work and then follows it with pure meaningless superficial trite, someone in the theater has to stand and cry film foul. (I’m throwing my critical “Patti” rocks at this one to put it out of its misery!)
