Surf, sharks and...Halle Berry? We’re checking out the new fun in the sun flick "Dark Tide," out now from Lionsgate Home Entertainment. Follow the waves below!
Title: "Dark Tide"
Grade: 1
Cast: Halle Berry, Olivier Martinez, Ralph Brown
Director: John Stockwell
Rating: PG-13
Runtime: 94 minutes
Release Company: Lionsgate Home Entertainment

The Flick: What a difference a horrible script makes. Director John Stockwell, who stared in such classics as "Top Gun," "My Science Project" and "Christine" and also made impressive flicks like "Crazy/Beautiful" and "Blue Crush" gets handed a steaming pile where a decent script should be and it’s a match made in hell. Stockwell tries his best to add in some great ocean visuals, but the film gets too bogged down with a mediocre story (Cliffhanger on water with Halle Berry as the surly shark expert - real believable!) and bad performances (Olivier Martinez not only has zero chemistry with Berry, but he’s downright annoying!) galore. Plus the lame and sporadic scary shark bits make Jaws 3 look cutting edge – not guts, no gills, no glory.
Best Feature: No features – I sense Stockwell new better then to stick a commentary track on this one.
Best Hidden Gem: When Martinez gets hit head completely bitten off by a great white…oh, wait that was in my dreams!
Worth the Moola: If you’re looking for a few good ocean visuals maybe, but this one should be cast out to sea and left for dead. In fact, ignore that previous sentence – go rent Stockwell’s "Blue Crush" instead!
