Blu-ray Review: 'Now You See Me'
The closer you look, the less you’ll see...or so goes the magician’s code. Follow us down the Houdini highway as we check out the new to Blu-ray magic themed thriller "Now You See Me" out now from Lionsgate Home Entertainment. The power of illusions gets reviewed below!
Title: "Now You See Me"
Grade: 3 1/2
Cast: Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher
Director: Louis Leterrier
Runtime: 115 minutes
Release Company: Lionsgate Home Entertainment
The Flick: As a flick about magic, "Now You See Me" starts off with a big bang. From the introduction of our four low-rent magicians doing their various cons to their first team effort of robbing a bank while in the performance hall, "Now You See Me" seems to get what makes illusions cool. Problem is the flick jumps the shark half way and has an ending so convoluted that even Carrot Top would goof on it. Plus I must admit while I dug Jesse Eisenberg’s cocky card jockey, Woody Harrelson’s conniving mentalist and Isla Fisher’s sly escape artist, I never really got the charisma of Dave Franco’s slight of hand guy. (Should have made this one the three horsemen!) From fascinating to far-fetched, "Now You See Me" is fun you’ll eventually want to escape from. (And that goes for the Extended Cut here too!)
Best Feature: LOVE the featurette 'A Brief History of Magic,' a cool doc on magic past and present that’ a must for any fan of magic.
Best Hidden Gem: If you look close you get a pinch of actor Elias Koteas – blink and he’s gone like Copperfield.
Worth the Moola: Escapism is a double-edged sword here – fun and run folks.
