Fat Joe Heading To Prison For Tax Evasion
Fat Joe has been sentenced to serve four months in prison for tax evasion.
The rapper pleaded guilty to two counts of tax evasion in December for failing to pay over $700,000 to the IRS in 2007-08; and he was also fined $15,000 and handed a year of probation, according to TMZ.com.
Fat Joe, real name Joseph Cartagena, claims his accountants were responsible for his financial troubles.
"You gotta understand we hire guys who are supposed have Harvard degrees to take care of us," he told RapFix Live in a recent interview. "All the time you see artists, the first thing they did to you when you caught money was introduce you to a bunch of fancy guys with bow ties who are gonna take care of your money and all that and then you always see an artist or a celebrity or somebody like that goin' down for it and these guys never go down for it."
The "Lean Back" singer was ordered to begin his prison stay by August 26 during his sentencing at a Newark, New Jersey, federal court on Monday.
