'Glee' Season 4: 5 Spoilers You Need To Know
August 19th, 2012 3:00pm EDT
I have an intense love-hate relationship with FOX’s musical juggernaut, “Glee.” While I appreciate the diversity of the cast and how it tackles controversial and important issues like bullying, self-acceptance and sexuality in a surrealistic, unapologetic, and sometimes hilarious way, I am confounded by its spastic, uneven storytelling and the way it continually ignores some characters to focus on the dramas of others. With that said, this summer has been much less melodious without the sparkly musical fun that is “Glee.” The Sept. 13 premiere is fast approaching, so here are five spoilers you need to know...
Gone, but not forgotten. Last season’s finale saw most of the beloved McKinley seniors graduating and going their separate ways, no mass enrollment at some conveniently nearby university for this show. DeadLine.com reports that all of the regulars will be returning in some capacity, although we’ll see more of the show’s leads Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Chris Colfer than others. Chord Overstreet, who briefly left the show last season after not being made a series regular, has finally attached that status. Who's ready for more of White Chocolate’s bodyrolls?
Kate Hudson whips Rachel into shape. The one-time Oscar nominee is guest-starring in a multi-episode arc as Rachel’s (Lea Michele’s) new dance teacher at NYADA. If you’ve ever seen Ms. Berry try to cut a rug, you know she has a lot of work to do, and this new teacher, named Cassanda July, is the antithesis of a positive, soft-gloved Mr. Schuester, according to EW.com. It’ll definitely be amusing to watch this “nasty” professor of jazz hands torture Rachel Berry. Ah, karma.
“Samcedes” fans, prepare for the worst. As a big fan of the adorkable coupling of diva Mercedes Jones (Amber Riley) and Sam Evans (Overstreet), it pains me to report that Sam will have a new girlfriend in the upcoming fourth season, according to TVLine.com. Riley reportedly hasn't received any scripts for the early part of the season, but her absence only gives her more time to focus on her upcoming solo album she's currently recording, per HollywoodReporter.com. But both Overstreet and Riley are eager for their characters to reunite. At least I can play Mercedes’ beautimous cover of “I Will Always Love You” over and over again until that happens.
Santana has an empire state of mind. Even though Santana got her mother’s blessing to head to New York City to pursue her dreams of being famous, TVGuide.com reports that season 4 kicks off with Ms. Lopez cheering at the University of Louisville as she initially intended. If anyone can turn a story on a dime, it’s “Glee,” so Santana may very well be joining a struggling Rachel in New York sooner than later. I can’t even imagine how awesome it would be to watch the Queen of Lima Heights and the effervescent control freak sharing a tiny apartment.
Don’t miss the fourth episode, “The Break-Up.” Grab your favorite blanket, box of tissues and your scratched copy of “My Heart Will Go On” because the fourth episode of “Glee” will have all of the couples—Santana/Brittany, Kurt/Blaine, Will/Emma and Rachel/Finn—facing disastrous, “Titantic”-esque obstacles that at least one couple won’t survive. Since Finn obliterated Rachel’s heart by breaking up with her, joining the Army and shoving her on a train to New York City on what should have been her wedding day, I’m assuming there’s no reconciliation for those two. Sadly, I think “Glee’s” chicest couple, Kurt and Blaine, are donesville. It’s no secret that Kurt will soon be joining Rachel in the Big Apple, and maintaining a long-distance relationship is incredibly difficult, especially for teenagers. I’m sure the Klaine fans are bereft at the thought, but if this means more sweaty boxing scenes from the scrumptious Darren Criss, I’m game.
