6 Things That Happened Backstage At the Oscars That You Didn’t S
#OscarsSoWhite turned out to be the best thing to happen to the ceremony in years. Not only because it created a dialogue that desperately needs to happen in Hollywood, but it also made for a very entertaining show.

Chris Rock didn’t hold back — from his monologue to the video sketches — the topic of racism in the entertainment industry was addressed head on. For TV viewers expecting a snoozy broadcast, that certainly didn’t happen.

Rock kicked off the night with this saucy quip:

"Jada boycotting [the Oscars]is like me boycotting Rihanna's panties. I wasn't invited."

The boycott didn’t ...

7 Things You Didn't See Backstage At The Oscars
The 87th Annual Academy Awards have come and gone, but some of the most intriguing things happened behind the scenes. Here are a few things seen and heard from backstage in the press room.

1. Hot Microphones: Before the show began, the ABC red carpet show was playing on the press-room monitors. They forgot to turn off Lara Spencer’s microphone, so the media got an earful as the entertainment correspondent reprimanded her crew for not giving her a long enough countdown to commercial break.

2. Surprise Wins: The press room gasped when Big Hero 6 upset Animated Feature category favorite How ...

Stars Of The Dance World Come Together To Support collidEdance's
For dance fans, this time of year brings a transition from the end of the spring season of Dancing With the Stars to the start of the summer series, So You Think You Can Dance. The show was an all-male dance theatre production created by 2013 Capezio A.C.E winner, Erica Sobol. Starring in the production was Season 6 and 7 SYTYCD fan favorite, Teddy Tedholm. He talked to Starpulse about working with Sobol and how unique it was to have a all-male cast.

Cannes Film Festival Raises The Profile of Female Directors
The Cannes Film Festival is halfway through its run and all eyes this year are on the females making an impact on the scene. With director Jane Campion stepping in as this year's President of the Jury for judging, there's been a call to recognize the contribution of women in the industry.

As the only female director to have won the coveted Palme d'Or for The Piano in 1993, she said at a press conference earlier this week, "I think you'd have to say [there is] inherent sexism in the industry. Thierry [Fremaux, artistic director of the festival] told us only 7% of the 1800 films submitted to...

Oscars: Red Carpet Highlights From The 86th Academy Awards
Starpulse was back on the red carpet for the fourth year and we spoke with some great stars this year. We've been in the same location for the last three years, but you never know who is going to stop by. Some years you get the big names, while other years, no one wants to be interviewed. The 86th Annual Academy Awards was a great year for us on the red carpet. Julia Roberts, Glenn Close, Kevin Spacey, Kellan Lutz and Whoopi Goldberg were just some of the names who stopped by to speak with us.

If you missed Starpulse's live coverage, take a look at our red carpet interviews!

1/17/2014 12:00pm EST
2014 Oscar Nominations
The 2014 Oscar nominations have arrived in a busy week filled with Golden Globes, Critics' Choice Awards and SAG Awards. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences filled this competitive film year with quite a few snubs. Left off the Oscar list are big names like Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson, Oprah Winfrey and Robert Redford. Movies that seemed to be sure-things in September are nothing but a distant memory to Oscar voters like Saving Mr. Banks and Lee Daniels' The Butler. Who will come out on top? Well, it no longer seems to be handed to 12 Years a Slave because Gravity and American Hust...
