8 Stars Attending SXSW
March 13th, 2013 2:20pm EDT
Starstruck? Find out which celebrities are attending the South by Southwest Conferences and Festivals March 8-17 in Austin, Texas. The SXSW features seven separate festivals including: music, film, interactive, gaming, trade show, music gear and flatstock. In 1987, only 700 people showed up. In 2013, 300,000 are expected to attend, generating $190 million in revenue for the city of Austin. Here's who you can expect to see if you're attending the event.
1. The Brave and Daring: Selena Gomez
Selena can do it all: act, sing, design clothing and enthrall us all with her charms. Beyond her performance as Alex Russo in the Emmy Award winning Wizards of Waverly Place, she's wowed us with everything she's done. You can keep up with Selena's whereabouts and activities in Austin this week by following her on Twitter. Selena and other celebrities tweet a lot, especially when they're excited about a big event like SXSW. Running out of battery in a new city at a festival can be hectic so many people are using no contract phones to keep up with the tweets and follow the action while keeping battery life long.
2. The Jane and Master of All Trades: Fergie
From Black Eyed Peas to new mama, Fergie confounds us by staying sexy through it all. Writing songs, singing, rapping, designing fashion, hosting TV shows, acting... what can't this beauty do? Not much, but you can follow it all during the SXSW festival and beyond on her Twitter account.
3. The Prettiest Little Liar Ever: Ashley Benson
Actress and model Ashley is most recognizable from her performance playing Hannah Martin on Pretty Little Liars. She is also popular for her role as Abbey Deveraux on the long running soap opera Days of Our Lives. She's also made headlines for her eye-popping role in Spring Breakers. But that's not all - she shows us her sophisticated side while modeling evening wear for Faviana. Don't mis her at SXSW!
4. The Frankly Fabulous: James Franco
Actor, film maker, teacher and writer Franco has been in everything from the Spiderman Trilogy to (more recently) Oz the Great and Powerful. Don't miss this Golden Globe Award winning actor when he hits SXSW. Unfortunately, he isn't an active resident of Twitterville, so you'll have to depend on luck to catch him when he shows up at the festival.
5. The Stunningly Talented and Unbelievably Hot: Olivia Wilde
The smokin' hot 13 from the now ended show House has become a national sensation, so everyone's excited to get a peak of her at SXSW this year. Aside from her role in the hit TV show, she also made a big splash on the big screen in The O.C., The Black Donnellys, Tron: Legacy, Cowboys and Aliens and In Time. Catch her at the festival in person using your mobile device to follow her Twitter activities.
6. The Funny, Magical (and Sometimes Scary): Jim Carrey
Yes, our favorite comedian is planning to attend the festival too. The Canadian actor and producer, whose list of credits goes far beyond the scope of this article, is easy to spot anywhere with his gait and smile. Even after his rather public humiliation for a certain embarrassing video awhile back, he keeps up a meager Twitter following and you can also keep up with Jim on his popular Facebook page. (By the way, Carrey is begging for new Twitter followers, so you'll be doing him a favor by cyber stalking him at the festival.)
7. The Witty, Silly: Steve Carrell
Voice artist, comedian and actor Steve Carrell is probably most recognized for his role in The Office. But he was also a big hit in the box office with films like Crazy, Stupid Love, Despicable Me, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World and The 40 Year Old Virgin. Don't miss one of the funniest men walkign the planet when he arrived in Austin later this week!
8. The Hot, Sexy and Totally Adorable: Josh Duhamel
Hunky fashion model turned actor, Josh made a name for himself playing Leo du Pres on All My Children, ABC's long running soap opera. Now, he's probably most associated with his role as chief of security Danny McCoy in the hit show Las Vegas. Wherever you know Josh from, you'll want to see (and look at him for a really long time) again, so be sure to keep up with the SXSW website to find out when and where you can get a glimpse of the handsome actor.
What to Remember While Keeping Up With the Stars at SXSW
If you're using your mobile device or computer to track your favorite celebrities during the SXSW, use the same caution you always need to use on social media and other websites.
Protect your device with the latest version of antivirus software Update antivirus software regularlyMake sure you're following the official Twitter accounts, Facebook pages and websites, not knock offsOnly post information on social media that you don't mind everyone seeing (no phone numbers, etc.)Check often: you never know what time of the day or night your favorite celebrity is ready to tweet or post
It's a good idea to watch TMZ or visit their website for the latest news about SXSW and information on celebrity sightings at the SXSW or any other event. You can see the full listing of events and line up of movies scheduled for viewing at SXSW at their official website.
How do you plan to catch your favorite celebrities while attending the SXSW festival? Be sure you're not spending so much time celebrity watching (or perhaps celebrity stalking) that you miss all the great talent showcased at the event. After all, the festival is about spotlighting new talent, and the ones who've been around awhile have already had their share of the public's love.
