August 27th, 2013 9:47am EDT

12 Monkeys Syfy is bringing "12 Monkeys" to the small screen. The drama series will be based on the 1995 Universal Pictures film directed by Terry Gilliam. The film starred Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt.

The hour-long cast-contingent pilot is being produced by Universal Cable Productions and Atlas Entertainment, producer of the original movie.

"12 Monkeys" centers on a man named Cole who is sent back in time in hopes of unravelling an apocalyptic nightmare before it completely erases humanity from the planet.
Production is slated to begin in November with Terry Matalas & Travis Fickett ("Terra Nova," "Nikita"), who wrote the pilot script, serving as co-executive producers.
The film pulled in over $168 million at the box office. Starpulse.com listed it as one of the top 10 time traveler movies.
