'Survivor 2013: Blood vs. Water' - Look At What Kat Dragged In!
October 24th, 2013 11:55am EDT
Previously on … Survivor. Tadhana’s newbie tribe finally won a challenge, which meant Galang had to vote out one of their own returning players. Aras and Tyson manipulated the others into sending Laura M. off to battle against Brad at Redemption Island. After all, she might beat Brad, sending him home, and leaving Monica with only her own tribe to cling to.
After Tribal Council, Laura B. breathed a sigh of relief that she hadn’t been voted out. Aras worried that he might have been seen as the ring leader in ousting Laura M., since leaders are always a target. Sure enough, Tyson warns Gervase that they may need to get rid of Aras before he gets rid of them.
This week, everyone arrives at Redemption Island for the day’s duel/truel. Brad, John and Laura M enter the arena. Ciera tells Jeff Probst that she had a feeling that something had happened to her mum. Before Probst can even ask, Laura M tells Jeff that she’ll not switch places with Ciera; she’ll get back into the game somehow.
The challenge for the trio involves a balance beam and a quartet of bags, each of which contain numbered pieces from 1-100 to put in order. Walk along the beam, untie the bags, count to 100 – are you smarter than a fourth grader? Brad takes a quick lead, while John keeps falling off the balance beam, sending him back to the beginning. Laura is first to finish. John narrowly beats out Brad, who cannot seem to remember his numbers, and that failing sends Brad home after 14 days on the Island.
Brad suddenly turns into a poet, telling Monica, “Monica, I came on here as a shield. Through my fault, or no fault of my own, I became an anchor. You’re free. The wind’s blowing. Sail. Sail hard.” One last kiss and a hug, and Brad’s gone, tossing his buff into the flames as he leaves. Laura, as the winner, offers the Hidden Immunity Idol clue to Vytas, rather than her daughter, hoping to put a target on his back. Vytas tosses the clue into the urn without hesitation. John and Laura leave the competitors ring.
Before Galang and Tadhana can leave, Jeff tells them there’s one more piece of business; it’s time to switch the tribes around. The current buffs are discarded, and everyone is asked to draw from a tray of covered buffs in new tribal colors.
Hayden, Caleb, Aras, Gervase, Tyson, and sole female Ciera will now comprise Tadhana – Monica, Katie, Tina, Laura B., Kat and Vytas, as the only male, are the new Galang.
On Tadhana, Caleb is happy with the new additions, and hopes that they will be able to work together, sharing strategies and information. Gervase just wants to get all the information he can from the ‘other side,’ and they eagerly blab every move the tribe has made so far. They even spill what little they know about the location of the Hidden Immunity Idol to Tyson.
Hayden is angry that Aras, Gervase and Tyson have come into the tribe and are gobbling up the fruits, spices and coconuts, like marauding frat boys on a visit to their parent’s house. Tyson’s plan is to eat as much of the food as possible, without coming across as the “lazy guy.” But he’s also intent on pointing out every wrong move that Aras does. He’s determined that Aras, not he, will be a target this time. Ciera’s not sure what to think about being the only female on Tadhana.
On Galang, Tina is overjoyed that her daughter Katie is now on her team. Vytas, as the only Galang male, is indeed the odd man out. He decides to ‘share’ his sordid past with the ladies, as he’s aware that being vulnerable could swing them to his side. Laura B is very taken with Vytas’ stories, but also knows that he and his brother Aras are strong contenders to be the ultimate winners.
But Kat’s taken a sudden dislike to Monica and what Kat believes is Monica's over-strategizing. Kat interviews that the key to Survivor is keeping the chatter to a minimum.
This week’s Challenge involves a lot of swimming and diving, in an effort to retrieve fish traps that contain puzzle pieces. Besides immunity, the winning tribe will be treated to a picnic, which includes cold cuts, bread, condiments and brownies.
Galang’s chances look slim when their first pairing, Laura B and Tina, release their trap, but neglect to bring it back to shore. They have to swim back, which costs Galang precious time. The Tadhana males laugh, and feel like they’ve got the game in hand.
But strength aside, the teams still have to solve a puzzle, and Galang’s got the best solvers on their side. Tadhana’s males struggle with the puzzle as Galang declares puzzle victory – twice! – but in the end, it’s Tadhana that actually gets the pieces in the right place and wins Immunity!
Vytas is seething at Galang’s challenge loss, but has to bite his tongue. Tina apologizes to everyone and begs their forgiveness. Meanwhile, the ladies are going to have to vote someone out of the tribe. The only male is the obvious target, but, Kat’s not happy with Monica. Despite the all-female alliance, she feels that Monica talks too much, and should be let go. When Tina tells Monica about Kat’s plan, Monica worries that Kat can no longer be trusted.
Monica confronts Kat, but Kat denies having said anything. Now Monica wants Kat out of the game. Tina’s torn between her allegiance to the other women, and her sense that Kat lacks tribal loyalty.
At Tribal Council, Probst immediately asks Kat how the tribe shakeup has played out. Kat and Monica tiptoe around each other, with Kat even shedding tears in an attempt to prove that she’s still worthy of her alliance. Vytas stirs things up by saying that loyalty is the most important quality necessary in a tribe member, and that he’s heard from several people that Kat is untrustworthy. He tells Jeff that all he can do, as a male outside of the alliance, is be open and vulnerable, and hope that they decide to keep him on the tribe.
When the votes are read, four votes cast against Kat are enough to make her the 6th person voted out of the game, and she is sent to Redemption Island. Probst tells the others that you don’t get trust by asking for it; it can only be earned.
At Redemption Island, Kat awakens John and Laura M, and tells them she’s worried that Hayden will be disappointed in her, and that she’ll embarrass him in front of his friends. “On a scale of one to ten in coolness, I just got a negative two.” After all, she adds, “Who wants to date someone that doesn’t make the merge?” Indeed!
Next time on, Survivor: In a tale of two brothers, Vytas is quickly making friends. Tina likes Vytas so much, she’d be ‘honored’ if he took an interest in her daughter, Katie. She’s ready for grandbabies. Meanwhile, Aras is on the hot seat, as his tribe begins to turn against him.
