'Survivor 2013: Blood Vs. Water': Monica's Swing Vote Cuts Hayden Loose

December 12th, 2013 11:44am EST

Hayden Moss Previously on … Survivor. Tyson was cruising through the game, with a strong alliance, and the second immunity idol. At Tribal Council, Ciera flipped on her alliance, and for the second time in Survivor history, rocks were drawn to break a tie. Katie was sent to Redemption Island. Tina was overjoyed to see her daughter, but was aware that only one of them can get back into the game.
At Kasama, everyone was still reeling from the Tribal Council proceedings. Tyson took an aggressive/defensive stance against Hayden, saying that you should never let a “crazy person” know that they’re on the bottom, and next to go home. Tyson, Monica and Gervase felt that their alliance was strong, but Monica worried that someone might have an idol. When Tyson let Gervase and Monica know that he already had the hidden idol, Monica continued to find reasons to worry, which got on Tyson’s nerves.
The next day, Ciera feels good about her decision. If she’s going to be the fourth, well then, it was time to make a move. For the first time, she’s hoping her mother wins and re-enters the game, so that the numbers go in their favor. Right now, the only hope she and Hayden have is to win a challenge, or find an immunity idol. If all else fails, they’ll need to try and find a weak spot in the other alliance, and drive a wedge between them.
Jeff Probst welcomes the tribe into the duel/truel arena. The battle will be between Laura, Tina, and her daughter Katie. Probst wonders if Tina is capable of giving 100% of her effort against her own child.
They must use rope to tie sticks together, making a long pole, and then retrieve three keys. The first two castaways to retrieve all three keys and unlock three locks will remain in the game. Survivors ready?
Tina advises daughter Katie how to best tie the sticks together. Laura is first to grab a key, and then a second. Tina falls behind as Katie captures her first key.
Soon Laura has all three keys, and is on to the lock portion of the challenge. And just like that, Laura wins again, retaining her title as challenge monster. Tina spends more time worrying about Katie than solving the problem, and barely ekes through. Tina comes in second, but with mixed emotions. She asks Katie if it’s okay with her, and Katie says that she’s proud of her mother.
With Katie about to go home, Tina says that her feelings about Katie are so very strong, that it’s the hardest moment of the game. Tina was an adopted child, and poured all of her love into Katie. Katie is gracious as she tosses her buff into the urn, and leaves the game.
Since Laura won again, she walks the clue to the Hidden Immunity Idol to Ciera, who graciously accepts it. Everyone leaves the arena.
Back at camp, Ciera is happy that her mother has once again won the challenge, and is glad to have the clue, but seems more intent on the relationships within the camp. Hayden, on the other hand, is determined to find the clue, unaware that Tyson already has it. Now that he’s aligned with Ciera, he feels that only finding the idol can save them.
Gervase is starting to get a little worried about Monica, who’s been a loose cannon throughout the game. But he’s well aware that he and Tyson need her on their side to make it to the Final Three.
Monica interviews that she loves both Gervase and Tyson, but she’s playing for herself, not them.
Ciera and Hayden make a plan to feed Monica’s paranoia. They’ll tell her that the others are mocking her, and that Tyson boasts that he’s leading her along like a puppy on a leash. Hopefully she’ll flip on her alliance and vote with them instead.
Come on in for the Immunity Challenge! Probst outlines this week’s task. They’ll dive into the water and push a buoy along a rope, through obstacles. Once they reach the shore, they’ll untie bags full of letter tiles, and use the tiles to solve a classic Survivor phrase. There will also be a Reward - a chance to order from a Survivor menu, and have food prepared especially for them, delivered to camp. Choices of entree include steak, lobster, burgers and pizza. Survivors ready?
Hayden and Tyson are quick to take the lead, with Monica right behind. Gervase, notoriously unhappy in the water, lags behind, but Ciera is impossibly outclassed. When Tyson begins working on his puzzle, Ciera is dead last.
Everyone is working frantically on their puzzles when Ciera finally arrives. The answer is an eight word phrase. Tyson, Gervase and Monica try various word combinations, but Ciera moves quickly, and has the answer before anyone else. “You Are Going To Have To Dig Deep.” Ciera wins Immunity!
She’s ecstatic, high fiving the others. Allowed to choose one person to join her for lunch, she chooses Hayden. She and Hayden will enjoy a wonderful meal, which they cannot share with the others.
Ciera gloatingly interviews that she’s proud of her win. She boasts “in your face!” to anyone who thought she made a stupid decision to go against Tyson. And if her mom makes it back into the game, there will be two Morett’s to worry about, not just one.
With so many food choices, Hayden opts for pizza, and Ciera orders a hamburger. During their feast, they discuss strategy. Hayden says that it’s time to shake Monica up. Ciera is sent to tell her that Tyson is calling her his puppy dog, who does what she’s told to do. Monica is teary, feeling like she’s been gut punched. She’s angry, and agrees when Ciera tells to vote against Gervase.
At Tribal Council, the jury of Aras, Vytas, Caleb and Katie file in. Probst mentions that Ciera’s big move at the last Tribal has had an impact on the game. Hayden tries to sow dissent within the alliance, shaking Tyson and Gervase’s confidence in Monica’s allegiance. Monica says that she’s definitely been wondering about Tyson and Gervase’s loyalty. Ciera tells Monica that the boys have been talking trash about her all along. Monica is clearly shaken.
Probst asks Gervase if he’s worried about Monica’s take on their loyalty. Gervase admits that he is, but hopes that she can see that Ciera and Hayden are exaggerating. Ciera tells Monica to think about what her family will be saying, as they watch Survivor from home. Monica thanks Ciera.
They vote. Jeff brings back the urn, and asks if anyone has an immunity idol to play, but Tyson says nothing. It’s close, but the 14th person voted out of Survivor: Blood vs. Water is Hayden. (I have to admit, I was surprised.)
Probst says that it’s very clear that the tight alliance of three leaves Ciera on the outside. The wild card is Redemption Island. Who’s coming back? And how will they change the game?
Hayden arrives at Redemption Island, and tells Tina and Laura that Monica is Tyson’s lapdog on a leash.
Next time on a special two hour Season Finale: “Do or Die.” One will return from Redemption Island, and one will win the title of Sole Survivor … Sunday ... December 15th.
