Final Four Named In 'So You Think You Can Dance' Semi Finals
“So You Think You Can Dance” has reached the semi finals. Only six dancers remain – three girls and three guys. By the end of the night there would be four moving on to the finale.
This week the dancers would perform four dances including the opening group number choreographed by Sonya Tayeh.
Joining Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy at the judging table this week was Christina Applegate. This week the judges will only offer their comments but had no say in which dancers would be saved and who would be eliminated; that is up totally to the fans for the last two weeks. Nigel noted that four of the six remaining dancers had been saved by the judges over the course of the season.
First up was Tiffany and season two winner Benji Schwimmer, making his first return to the dance floor since his win, for a Jive that had everyone on their feet. The judges called the performance amazing, tremendous, and a great routine.
After Whitney performed her solo Cole and season eight winner Melanie performed a Sonya Tayeh Jazz routine that the judges called masterful and commanded the attention of the fans.
After Chehon’s solo Eliana nd Twitch performed a Christopher Scott Hip-Hop routine to “Please Mr. Postman” that brought mixed reviews from the judges. While fun and entertaining the performance was character and comedy driven.
After Tiffany’s solo Chehon and Kathryn performed a Tyce Diorio Contemporary routine about surviving and moving on from tragedy. The performance brought everyone to their feet and had the judges calling the routine masterful.
After Cole’s solo Whitney and Marco performed a Lyrical Jazz routine about doubts at the alter. The judges called the performance lovely, beautiful, and a great partnership.
After Eliana’s solo Cyrus and Comfort completed the All Star round with the show’s first ever Dub Step routine that had the crowd on their feet screaming and Cyrus saying “Whoa”. The judges called the performance fantastic, remarkable, and incredible to watch.
The final round began with Whitney and Chehon performing a Cha Cha. And while the judges noted that Chehon’s performance was better than his Samba, it lacked something, and the judges wanted to see more.
Cyrus performed the last solo of the night.
Eliana and Cole performed a Mia Michaels Contemporary routine about hatred to the “Adagio for Strings” that brought the audience to their feet. Mary Murphy summed it up when she called the performance absolutely mesmerizing.
Tiffany and Cyrus performed the final competition routine of the night with a Spencer Liff Broadway routine resembling a nineteen fifties television show with two teens left home alone to do their homework… The judges called the routine cute, terrific, and splendid.
Before host Cat Deely announced any results the AXIS Dance Company performed a portion of their performance “The Narrowing”.
The dancers moving on to the finals next week are Tiffany, Eliana, Chehon, and Cyrus.
Whitney and Cole were eliminated.
