Miley Cyrus has spoken out about her decision to go nude in her latest video, "Wrecking Ball".

The singer addressed the controversy in an interview with New York DJ Elvis Duran, saying that people are making a "big deal" about the video for no reason.

"I think the video is much more. If people get past the point that I'm naked and you actually look at me, you can tell I look more broken than even the song sounds," she said, phoning in to New York's Z100 from London. "If people can take their minds off the obvious and go into their imagination and see what the video really means it is so vulnerable."

Miley said that the video's imagery, which consists of a close-up on her face with a lone tear rolling down her cheek followed by riding naked atop a wrecking ball as it smashes up a concrete room, crawling semi-nude through the rubble and then licking a sledgehammer, is used to convey the message.

"Actually, if you look at my eyes I look more sad than actually my voice sounds on the record. It was a lot harder to actually do the video than it was to even record the song. It was much more of an emotional experience."

The former Hannah Montana star made headlines back in August following a racy performance with singer Robin Thicke at the MTV Video Music Awards and followed that up with the release of the video.

Miley's dad, singer Billy Ray also defended the video

"It wouldn't have mattered if Miley would have worn jeans and a flannel shirt ...a Tux ...or a nun's habit. The song's a smash ...and her performance vocally on the tune reflects her roots and sheer God given talent," he told Entertainment Tonight during an interview on Wednesday.

Miley agrees that no matter what, she's going to be scrutinized.

“Kind of anything that I do at this point it becomes such this big deal and for me,” she told Duran. “I’m just having fun, and whatever people label it as, it doesn’t really matter, I’m just having fun.”
