CD Review: A Breach Of Silence - 'The Darkest Road'

CD Review: A Breach Of Silence - 'The Darkest Road'
With crisp production and perfect structures, A Breach Of Silence’s The Darkest Road is as much Killswitch Engage as it is Avenged Sevenfold, combining a dazzling array of all things heavy from thrash to power to (old school) metalcore; an album rife with unrelenting monsters and beastly stomping thrashers that rarely, if ever, take their foot off the gas (“The Darkest Road,” “Hang Em High,” “In Reality We Trust”). Shredding opener “TPNE” aka “The Party Never Ends” proves Attila isn’t the only band in town with the party game locked down, while The Darkest Road spews forth pinpoint blast be...

CD Review: Let It Happen - 'Cause + Effect'

CD Review: Let It Happen - 'Cause + Effect'
Let It Happen’s Cause + Effect will make you remember why you fell in love with the powerpop/pop-punk genre in the first place – The Starting Line, Something Corporate, Further Seems Forever – their lasting influence can be felt throughout Cause + Effect, an album that offers a gorgeous combination of saccharine hooks, endearing melodies and heart-on-sleeve songwriting (“Burst and Bloom,” “Spent”). Cause + Effect is mature for a debut – believe it or not this is the band’s debut – with introspective lyricism rife with memorable lines (“Sinner/Saint’ - ‘We’re all waging war/But I’m a raging ...

CD Review: Artifex Pereo - "Time In Place" (Tooth & Nail)

CD Review: Artifex Pereo - "Time In Place" (Tooth & Nail)
Artifex Pereo’s, culled from a quote from Roman Emperor Nero, Time In Place is avant-garde, dynamic and truly unique. This album is a veritable aural melting pot, evidenced by album opener “No Stranger To Worry,” combining evolving, unpredictable time signatures, progressive vocals, a fondness of theatrics, and layered, fluid guitars. Chances are the end product is something totally different from everything else you’re currently listening to. “Hands of Penance,” which presents what the rest of the album doesn’t – discernable song structures, stands as a straight forward beacon, a buoy, amo...

Gwen Stefani
With Christina Aguilera waiting in the wings after giving birth to her second child, Gwen Stefani won't be returning as a mentor on "The Voice" for its ninth season -- but that doesn't mean she won't be keeping busy.

Last month during New York Fashion Week the singer confirmed that she was working on the solo disc and added that "The Voice" co-star Pharrell Williams is producing it.

Stefani released the first single off the new disc, "Baby Don't Lie," on October 20. The new CD...

Nicki Minaj Is Trying To 'Shock The World' By Toning Down Her Image

October 20th, 2014 4:09pm EDT
Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj says that despite all the booty-saking and near nudity in the video for her latest single, "Anaconda," there's nothing special about it.

The singer, who appears in a sexy spread for the November GQ, says that she doesn't "know what there is to really talk about," when asked to discuss it.

"I'm being serious," she says of the racy promo. "I just see the video as being a normal video."

The rapper exlained that her video is simply about girls doing what they do, which, to her, is dancing around in skimpy outfits and twerking.

"I think the video is about what girls do," she says...

'The Affair' Season 1 Episode 2 Review

October 20th, 2014 3:52pm EDT
The Affair
The Affair is back with its second episode complete with a brand new title sequence and song courtesy of Fiona Apple. The new intro is a nice antecedent to the drama with its evocative beach-themed visuals and dramatic musical style; it certainly sets the stage for what is to come.

If the pilot for the series introduces us to the main characters and its compelling narrative structure, then the second episode begins to weave the intricate web of circumstances/events that bring these people to where they are in the present day. The narrative unfolds like a Rube Goldberg machine, little bits ...
