Fall 2006 Movie Preview: Drama

Jude Law stars in All The King's MenThis fall is flooded with comedies, horror films, and action flicks, while there are just a few dramas set for release. In All The King’s Men (Sept. 22), Sean Penn, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Patricia Clarkson, James Gandolfini, Mark Ruffalo, and Anthony Hopkins lead an all-star cast in the third screen version of Robert Penn Warren's Pulitzer Prize-winning 1947 novel. Willie Stark (Penn), a fast talking politico, is quick to discover just how far one can fall when ambition and power compels a person to betray his or her original stance.

In Breaking & Entering (Oct. 6), a young landscape architect (Jude Law) with a state-of-the-art office in a dangerous neighborhood in London suffers repeated burglaries. This sets into motion a chain of related events and clashes between ethnicities, forcing the architect to reexamine his life.

Christian Bale stars in The PrestigeIn the world of illusion, nothing is ever quite as it seems, and the rules of the physical world simply don't apply. In The Prestige, (Oct. 20) Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman play two rival magicians in 19th century London. During a fake séance in a saloon, the two rivals clash. Their feud to destroy each other helps both of their careers temporarily, but in the end it ruins the two of them.

In A Good Year (Nov. 10), an Englishman (Russell Crowe) inherits a French vineyard from his uncle. As he settles into his new life, he encounters a beautiful California woman who claims the property is rightfully hers.

A Good YearBobby (Nov. 22) centers on the June 6, 1968, assassination of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy. The film features 22 people who were at the Ambassador Hotel where the politician was killed. The film boasts a star-studded cast, including Anthony Hopkins, Demi Moore, Sharon Stone and Elijah Wood.
