Liev Schreiber Annoyed By Scarlett Johansson's 'Asteroid Loogie' Comment (Video)

March 15th, 2010 12:49pm EDT

Liev SchreiberLiev Schreiber has fired back at his Broadway co-star Scarlett Johansson, accusing her of exaggerating an embarrassing incident when he accidentally spat in her face on stage.

The pair are currently appearing in Arthur Miller play "A View From the Bridge," in which Johansson portrays a 17-year-old girl in 1950s New York with Schreiber as her uncle.

The actress recently appeared on "Late Show with David Letterman" and recalled a scene when Schreiber allegedly disgusted theatregoers when he mistakenly spat an "asteroid-size loogie" on her forehead.

But Schreiber insists the whole incident - which he calls "loogiegate" - has been blown out of proportion by the blonde beauty.

He says, "If I were to produce the loogie, how on earth could I actually produce an 'asteroid size' loogie? I think it's unfair because the reality of what happened is a spittle escaped from the side of my mouth while I was acting in a very dramatic play. What's disturbing to me is that this is now international news. This is an acclaimed Arthur Miller play and all she could think of saying was that I hawked a loogie."

Johansson and Schreiber's limited run is scheduled to end on April 4.
