June 19th, 2010 3:00pm EDT

Jolie,_Angelina Angelina Jolie has visited displaced villagers on the Ecuadorian boarder with Colombia in the run-up to World Refugee Day on Sunday.

The Hollywood beauty, who has been a United Nations (U.N.) Goodwill Ambassador since 2001, is an avid supporter of the annual day to highlight the plight of refugees around the globe.

And as part of her duties with the U.N., the star returned to the Ecuador/Colombia boarder for the first time in eight years on Wednesday, to visit the women and children who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflicts in the South American region.

She left two days later after speaking with Ecuador's President Rafael Correa and other government officials.

It is reported that between 50,000 and 170,000 Colombian refugees are living close to the border because of the ongoing conflicts in the country, which have played out since the 1960s.
