Sandra Bullock Duped By BP And Other Big Oil Companies?

July 30th, 2010 10:19am EDT

Bullock,_Sandra Sandra Bullock and a host of other celebrities recently served in a campaign and appeared in a YouTube video for an organization to help restore the Gulf called RestoreTheGulf.com. In the video, Bullock and others calls for people to sign a petition for a plan to restore America’s Gulf, demanding restoration and protection for the future of the Gulf.

It seems that Sandra and most likely all the other celebs involved with this video and campaign were duped. What Bullock didn't realize was that a group called America's Wetlands Foundation was behind the campaign which is mainly funded by big oil companies and has connections to a political group to help lift the offshore drilling moratorium. It was also reported on the website ThinkProgress.com, the foundation subtly "implies that American taxpayers, not the unmentioned oil industry, should pay for restoring the region BP has poisoned."

ThinkProgress also received a statement from Bullock's publicist which states:

"Ms. Bullock was originally contacted through her attorney to be a part of the PSA in order to promote awareness of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. At no time was she made aware that any organization, oil company or otherwise had influence over Women of the Storm or its message. We have immediately asked for her participation in the PSA be removed until the facts can be determined. Her commitment to the Gulf region has been apparent for many years and she will continue to pursue opportunities that will bring awareness and support to the plight of the Gulf region."

The other celebrities involved with the YouTube campaign included Dave Matthews, Lenny Kravitz, Emeril Lagassi, John Goodman, Harry Shearer, Peyton and Eli Manning, Drew Brees and a cast of others.

While the facts are being checked, Bullock wants her part in the video removed until it is learned whether oil companies influenced it.
