Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows "Harry Potter" has worked its magic on the U.S. box office chart once again, opening with a spell-binding gross of $125.1 million.

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1," scored the franchise's best debut to date, ahead of 2005's "Goblet of Fire," which took $102.7 million in its first weekend of release.

The seventh "Potter" film raked in a whopping $24 million from midnight showings alone when it opened across America on Thursday night.

The stellar figures toppled animated hit "MegaMind" from number one - the Brad Pitt and Will Ferrell-voiced film slips to two with $16.2 million, while Denzel Washington's "Unstoppable" takes third place with $13.1 million.

Russell Crowe's new thriller "The Next Three Days" scrapes into the top five at five with an opening take of $6.8 million, behind comedy "Due Date" at four with $9.2 million.
