Cate Blanchett Confirmed For 'The Hobbit'
The Hobbit director Peter Jackson is "thrilled" after confirming Cate Blanchett as the latest star to join the highly-anticipated film.
Blanchett is set to play elven leader Galadriel, the Lady of Lothlorien - the part she played in the Lord of the Rings trilogy - and Jackson is ecstatic the Oscar-winning actress has agreed to be involved.
He says in a statement, "Cate is one of my favorite actors to work with, and I couldn't be more thrilled to have her reprise the role she so beautifully brought to life in the earlier films."
British actor Martin Freeman and Northern Irish star James Nesbitt have also been confirmed for the big-budget production, while other new recruits include former Dr. Who star Sylvester McCoy as wizard Radagast The Brown, Ken Stott as dwarf Lord Balin and Swedish star Mikael Persbrandt as Beorn.
